2015 & 2016 The First Globbers

Joy and fun—Globber-style—enters the scooter industry with our first-ever Globbers: we proudly unveiled our first 3-wheel and 2-wheel scooter, launching in 2015 with the classic Globber look and functionalities.

Our big launch into the scooter industry shows our dedication to delivering innovative, high-quality rides that cater to people of all ages.

A year after its success, our first all-in-one ride-on is released to the market, which introduced our iconic transformation product: a ride-on that transforms into a walking bike and toddler scooter. With this ride-on addition to the first Globbers, we successfully opened up a whole new world of possibilities on wheels.

2016 1^st Patent: Steering Lock System

We kicked off our innovation streak with our first patent: a steering lock system to revolutionise the conventional 3-wheel scooter.

With the steering lock system activated by the simple push of a button, the scooter’s wheels are fixed to only move forward and backward. This helps kids safely learn balance and how to stay on a scooter. And when they’re ready, simply unlock the system for classic lean-to-steer.

This innovation transformed the way we ride scooters, making it easier and safer for kids to learn how to scoot.

Later, we also innovated the push-button folding system, so parents and kids alike can easily fold their 3-wheel scooter with the simple push of a button!

2016 1^st Award: Nuremberg Toy Award

After just two short years since our inception, we were honoured to achieved our first accolade—the prestigious Nuremberg Toy Award, which honours the best and brightest toys in the world—for our innovative first-generation ride-on scooter.

2016 Elliptic Folding System

ELITE scooter's elliptic folding system is a patent that took Globber a step further in scooter innovation—this Globber-exclusive folding system is designed to provide users with maximum convenience and portability.

With just a simple button, the scooter can easily be folded and unfolded at a 180° turn without removing the T-bar, making it incredibly easy to fold, transport, and store.

University students aged 18 to 28 take on the 4L Trophy challenge in their decked-out Renault 4L cars, starting the journey from Biarritz, France to Marrakech, Morocco and driving through Spain. The goal is to carry as many supplies as possible while completing the trip not in the shortest time, but in the shortest distance!

This year, we are so proud to have co-sponsored engineering students Tom and Jules in their 4L Trophy rally adventure. They joined hundreds of crews to transport 30+ tons of items that will benefit nearly 20,000 children.

Despite the daunting task, Tom and Jules were inspired by a sense of wonder, adventure, and fulfilment. Tom shares his experience of the rally:

“As a 22-year-old engineering student, participating in the 4L Trophy is a unique experience for me. This adventure mixes the charitable aspect—with all the donations to Enfants de Désert and La Croix Rouge Française—and the human experience. Being with approximately a thousand crews around the same age as me was amazing, as everyone helped each other and just had a good time. Then, there’s Morocco: beautiful landscapes and amazing people with unconditional hospitality. I thank everyone that allowed us to go through with this project and encourage everyone to go for it.” - Tom, engineering student

As 4L Trophy marks its 25^th anniversary with this year’s rally, we are honoured to have been part of a milestone that changes the lives of communities for the better. And we look forward to next year!

Skateparks are no longer dominated by skateboarders—more and more millennial and gen Z riders are heading over to the ramps with stunt scooters in tow.

As cited by the Rolling Stone Magazine: “A study from Statista.com by the Outdoor Foundation backs up this observation: The number of skateboarders in the U.S. alone decreased from 10.1 million to 6.4 million between 2006 and 2016, with an even more dramatic drop among skaters aged 6-17”.

The next generation has certainly claimed freestyle scootering as a millennial sport, becoming incredibly popular among kids, teens, and adults within the skating community. While freestyle scootering is fairly new, scootering athletes have greatly progressed the sport over the past decades. A roster of stunts is continuously cultivated as pro riders innovate and perform new scootering tricks.

Freestyle Scootering: An All-New Competition on the Ramps

Freestyle Scootering, also known as “freestyle scooter riding”, “scootering”, or simply “riding”, is an extreme 2-wheel sport where riders perform freestyle tricks with the use of stunt scooters.

Often referred to as a millennial sport that resembles skateboarding and bicycle motocross (BMX) due to the tricks that riders perform, freestyle scootering houses the next generation of riders that encompasses all age groups from kids to adults.

The past two decades have seen kick scooters evolve as a means of getting around to a competitive sport, complete with a governing body officiated by the International Scooter Association and a community of professional all-age riders that engage in gripping and thrilling freestyle scootering stunts and tricks.

 After ScooterCon’s SD1, the first freestyle scootering tournament in 2006 hosted in San Diego⁴, the sport has continued to develop and transform throughout the years— stunt scooters are continuously redesigned, and progressive riders continue to push the boundaries of the sport by inventing new manoeuvres and styles.

Despite a COVID-hit world, associations—with the support of numerous brands—have strived to keep the sport alive.

Freestyle scootering made a comeback through Extreme Barcelona 2021 and Madrid Urban Sports 2021. These events celebrated competitive street sports, which included freestyle scootering, bringing together the world’s best scooter riders, national teams, and rising talents.

Millennial & Gen Z Riders for Freestyle Scootering

Many young and kindred spirits with an unparalleled passion for stunts have been welcomed by the freestyle scootering community over the last couple of years alone. Just to name a couple:

Ivan (@Ivanlifee), a 6-year-old rider from Russia, started riding at the tender age of just four and has been pulling off epic stunts ever since. Supported by his dad and after countless trips to the ramps, his latest triumph is landing his first double tailwhip at the skatepark!

And in the UK, 14-year-old teen—Kyle Henson (@ky13jh)— discovered the sport amidst lockdown and started freestyle scootering during the pandemic, opening him up to the world of stunt scooters and a whole new community!

Pro riders officially competing in freestyle scootering events can be as young as 7 years old, and most of these athletes are starting to attract brand sponsorships. As millennial and gen Z riders—both pros and enthusiasts alike—keep the momentum going and champion freestyle scootering, many are anticipating the sport to become more internationally recognised by other associations and eventually qualify as an Olympic sport.

Scooting is a Low-Impact Exercise that Burns Fat 

The physical activities we do for the purpose of exercising vary at different levels, depending on intensity. Relative intensity is the amount of effort exerted to do a specific activity, affecting your heart rate and breathing. As relative intensity measures how strenuous an activity may be, most workouts are classed as either low-, mid-, or high-impact exercise.

Scooting falls under the low-impact exercise category, because it is low weight-bearing, unlike running or jumping, which puts a strain on your joints while in motion. Low-impact exercise, however, despite its name, shouldn’t be underestimated—it provides equal health benefits as other high-intensity workouts and is actually the sweet spot in which our bodies burn fat, which is around 70 per cent of your maximum heart rate.

This range can usually be achieved through low-impact exercises, such as scooting, which gives a fat-burning heart rate, increased strength, lower risk of injury, and an easy and fun activity that you can easily add to your daily workout regimen.

Outdoor Exercises (Like Scooting) Improve Mental Health

Exploring a world on wheels can be considered a “green exercise”, a term that describes the synergistic health benefit of exercising and being exposed to nature simultaneously. Scooting in nature immerses us in an environment that has restorative properties, promoting recovery from mental fatigue and attention restoration. Generally, green exercise is said to improve your overall mental state and markers of physiological health, with its effects even extending to a biochemical and social level as well.

Static hold exercises help get muscles warm before shifting to larger muscle movements, helping prevent injury. Among the major risk factors outlined that lead to poor cardiovascular health are a sedentary lifestyle, high blood pressure, and obesity—these risks can be reduced significantly by taking measures, such as regular exercise, to improve overall cardiovascular health.

Engaging in various physical activities like regularly scooting can increase cardiovascular health and diminish disease risk factors.
